I've been mulling over some new ideas for cup cakes for a while. It's nice being able to bounce between knitting rabbits and knitting cakes - both are enjoyable in different ways and involve different techniques (variety is the spice of life and all that...). Anyway, I wanted to knit up some seasonal cakes for Easter. The inspiration for these came a while ago when I was making a rabbit called Bunny Slippers. As I was making her I thought that the little bunny heads might look sweet on cakes and here's the result.
The other cakes I've been experimenting with are inspired by the work of Kylie Lambert - a woman of great artistry and skill who creates edible cakes so beautiful that it seems a shame to stick a cake fork into them. I am continually stunned by the detail and perfection of her cakes, she's got a magical touch and must have a very steady hand. Anyway, inspired by her beautiful work, here are a few interpretations in yarn!

These look wonderful! It might be fun to get some little round irridescent beads and sew them on like sprinkles. Because everyone loves sprinkles!

These are just such fun, you are so clever. I have been trying to make some from the oneskein pattern book, its my first time knitting in the round, I have to tell you they look NOTHING like yours. It amazes me how profession all your work is you have such an eye for detail. Keep up the good work.

Oh the bunny cakes are so cute! Are you going to be selling them because I'm really sure my Sister would love one of those for Easter rather than an egg. Actually, I'd like one myself too.

Looking at Kylie's light pink edible flowers just takes me right back to my own wedding cake...almost 13 years ago.
Bunnies and flowers and spring dresses and cupcakes (always!) ...that's what helps make the world a more delightful place to be in!

Hi Julie, I have been browsing several blogs and stumbled upon yours. Your creations are just beautiful, bunnies, hedgehogs etc!:) and the cupcakes made my mouth water. I also enjoyed reading about the bunny who finally came home- maybe he really didn't want to leave you? _ I was also interested in reading about autism, there are many things I was unaware of, and it was very informative.
