Nothing better than homegrown tomatoes ^_^ Although I have failed (yet again!) to grow them, I really appreciate those of Mr H's grandfather. Nothing better! Fortunately, potatoes do better in my garden, so all is not loss!
Have a lovely weekend.

Scoffed?? Didn't they like them?? They look gorgeous. I have tried homegrown tomatoes for the first time this year, and I cannot believe how good they taste!

The last of ours are gone too and the empty pots are waiting to be filled with something autumnal. Perhaps his weekend....

Am so jealous....
Ours never got change to ripen - so now have several jars of Green Tomato Chutney slowly maturing!

you really can't beat homegrown tomatoes. We didn't grow any this year - luckily my Dad did and I've been pinching his! We are planning to grow our own strawberries next year as Leah loves them, so have sent off for them already!

Lovely tomatoes!
Regarding "scoff" - here in the U.S. (at least in southern California) a lot of people use "scarf."

They look fab. I've only got one tomato on my plant and it is refusing to ripen... not enuff sun!

We've had a fair few tomatoes this year despite the rubbish summer - not as pretty as yours, but still very tasty!
Posted by: Caroline B | September 26, 2008 at 08:46 PM
oh hahahaha! I'm lost in giggles trying to think how one might scoff at a tomato "oi, you scurvy blushing plump lump" "yes you, you acidic ball of squish".... nope doesn't sound convincing to me! t.x

very beautiful picture and what yummy looking tomatoes!

Ha! That's what I love about English blogs...as an Aussie...I get the language! We would also say 'scarfed' (although I don't know if thats exactly the right spelling for it!). Jen

And I'm pretty sure that they deserved to be scoffed very quickly!

I have six cherry tomatoes, lots and lots of green bullets! (All grown by mistake from compost heap soil - oops, must not have been hot enough!)
Thanks for posting Julie, makes me smile. Internet love for Toby and Amy x

Hello Julie.
What a lovely photograph. I Love home grown things, i keep meaning to add some to my personal blog, but I forget with everything else going on.
I have however got photographs of my home and garden on there- if you want a look.
Best Wishes,
Laura
( I will be writing a letter to the little girl also.)

Mmmm, I can almost smell them...

They look lovely, and home grown tomatoes are such a treat. The "Brit slang" of scoff must be akin to the American slang of "scarf" - meaning the same thing if I am understanding correctly.

You scoffed (at) them? No wonder they're blushing! :) Homegrown is the best! And I think scoffing and scarfing are the same thing on different sidesof the pond.

I can taste those just looking at your picture. YUM!!!

Oops, sheepish American here! I never knew that little piece of British slang. Thanks for educating me!
