Thanks so much for all of the kind comments about the knitted hedgehogs. The little pattern is all finished and I'll pop some copies into my etsy shop and on to Lulu shortly. I thought I'd give away *20 copies of the pattern and also 2 of the finished hedgies at random - so please leave a comment below if you'd like to be entered into the draw.
The pattern can be made from leftover yarn and is very simple and with just 1 seam - the little feet are optional if you're in a hurry or don't like fiddly! They can be used as toys or make useful little pincushions.
I've decided to donate a portion of the profits to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society who were so helpful when we were hand-rearing Herbert Hogwart 2 years ago. Hedgehogs are in decline in many areas of the UK and if you'd like to encourage them in your own garden they have some great tips and advice on their website. They're lovely little creatures - very entertaining to watch and great to have around the garden as they hoover up all those pesky slugs and snails!

So SWEET of you to do this giveaway. There are a lot of cute hedgehog stuffed animals available and I think yours are the BEST! Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.

You are amazing- I wouldn't know where to start in creating a pattern! The hedgehogs are delightful! Keep up the good work!

These little knitted hedgehogs are so cute. You caught their characters just right.
We haven't seen real hedgehogs in our garden again for more than a year now, since our family of five met a mysterious end. All very sad.
We keep hoping a new one will find us and tell its friends about our yummy slugs.

Very cute pattern. I love all of your work! Someday I would love to buy your rabbit dress pattern. I just can't figure out straps, neckline and that pretty hem. I use your egg cozy pattern but I just don't think it is the same as some of those BEAUTIFUL dresses your bunnies wear. Maaybe someday you will sell that pattern. I will be there if so!

Very cute pattern!

Awwwwww! They're gorgeous! I collected toy hedgehogs and had a bit of a hedgie obsession as a child (they're still in a basket in a cupboard somewhere!) so this is a perfect pattern for me!
Posted by: Charlie P | June 30, 2009 at 09:51 PM
Those are so adorable. I'm going to etsy now to see if the pattern is available. Thanks so much for offering it!!!

Ah, to have a hedgehog in Phoenix, Arizona! Let me be the first. Tina

I love the little hedgehog. I'd like to knit one for my Mum as a pincushion.
Funny to think of a hedgehog having pins stuck into it, rather than having it's own spikes poking out!

Love the hedgehogs..pick me pick me!
Posted by: Abi (Lavababy) | June 30, 2009 at 10:04 PM
So cute but I don't think I could bring myself to use them as pincushions. They are so realistic it would feel a bit too pseudo-voodoo doll-esque!!!

Hi
The hedgehog is our "landscape"-animal here on Gotland, a small island outside Sweden. I would love to knit one! By the way, your rabbits are so lovely..

He's so cute.
I love hedgepigs, I did think we had one living under our deck but I think the cats must have scared him off.

Can I resist the chance of winning a pattern or hedgehog.. I don't think so! I can't remeber the last time we saw a hedgehog in the garden.

With already nearly 200 responses, I am doubting that mine will be the one you pick [I'm never fortunate in any draw I go in for unfortunately]. Well done to who ever does win however!

We don't have hedgies in Australia, so this could be my chance to knit one up and own one!
Posted by: Fiona | June 30, 2009 at 10:47 PM
I don't think I could EVER stick pins in that cute little hedgehog!
You know, I think it's actually illegal to have a hedgehog as a pet in Canada. I'm sure the knitted kind are acceptable, though.
