a little giveaway to celebrate spring

I know that I always bang on about blossom at this time of year but plum blossom is the first indication that spring has arrived again in our little garden and that makes me very happy. Toby is an outdoorsy kind of boy and life in the warmer weather is more relaxed and fun for him, so I'm cheered by the lovely thought of all of those warm and sunny days to come with paddling pool splashing, bubble chasing, tea in the garden and a bit of knitting in the sun for me of course!

Anyway, with spring and Easter in mind I've finished off the egg cosy pattern.

Today I'm very pleased to be hosting a giveaway on behalf of Kerry at Pennydog. She creates beautiful and unique resin jewellery and has recently started making gorgeous handcrafted knitting needles with delicious names like Strawberry Jam, Contrary Mary and Shooting Star (see below).

All are UK size 3 (6.5mm / US 10.5) and are just over 7 inches long - perfect for knitting up a scarf and are created from translucent resin mixed with iridescent style glitter with buttons added on to prevent your knitting from slipping off. They come gift boxed so would make a lovely gift if you could bear to part with them!

bring me sunshine...

I don't know about you but all this wet and wintry weather is really getting me down! So in an attempt to cheer myself up I am surrounding myself with a rainbow of yarn.

Getting all this sorted out and bagged up has helped me to get organised and I now have some animals ready to be added to etsy, hopefully starting tomorrow. I'm also hoping to write up a free Eastery pattern in the next few weeks. It definitely helps to look ahead to spring - let's hope it gets here very soon!

out of the groove

I can't seem to find my knitting groove! It always disappears over a school holiday when keeping the children entertained takes precedence over the quiet pleasures of a ball of wool but this week I've still not managed to get back into bunny knitting. It might have something to do with the state of my work basket...

... a tangle of limbs, ears, heads and other disembodied parts - in short a big mess (I am not one of the world's naturally tidy people). The trouble with working on a whim is that I forget where I got to on a particular animal and where I put the wool to finish off each one. I have some sorting out to do and then hopefully I'll be on track to finish off some new animals for the end of the month.

christmas tree decorations

We are starting to get excited about christmas here at our house. A few mince pies have already been gobbled up, the first door on the advent calendar has been opened and the countdown has begun in earnest! So, in keeping with the spirit of christmas I thought I'd write up a new free pattern to share with you - hopefully there's enough time to make a few before the big day arrives!

They are based on my teeny tiny toy pattern but have a dress and a hanging loop to make them suitable for hanging on the christmas tree. You can find the pattern here. I hope you enjoy it!

A parcel of good cheer

We've been a bit down in the dumps here what with one thing and another and Toby has been off from school again with yet another of the high temperature viruses that he seems so prone to. Hopefully he's over the worse now and maybe all of these challenges to his immune system will result in him becoming more resistant in future.

Anyway, I often find that even when things feel dismal a smile is never far away and sure enough a big one arrived yesterday in the shape of a wonderful package from Jen at Frazzy Dazzles

 

Jen makes the most wonderful softies and sweet things (you can see some in her etsy shop). She included some beautifully made hairslides in the shapes of a hedgehog, goldfish and mouse and such a tiny and cute little mouse in a bed, all of which Amy has spirited away into her room to be kept as treasures. There were also some gorgeously illustrated books for the children.

I had been coveting Jen's garden warriors and now I have a Briar and her little hen Thistle all to myself. She's going to be helping me plan out my fledgling vegetable garden - I think with a touch of her magic and a little luck things will work out just fine.
